President Bush’s Legacy

Published by mcnally1 at 12:56 pm under Politics, news Edit This

President George W. Bush has been reflecting on his presidential legacy. We all know that the legacy will include the Iraq war, the poor economy, and the loss of jobs. However, President George W. Bush says that he will leave the office of the president with the same values that he entered into it with. President Bush has been president for two terms or eight years. He has done some good things like help fight AIDS, help get elderly people prescription coverage, and help with Medicare. However, people will not remember those things because everyone associates the wars and the horrible economy with George W. Bush. There is no way to repair this legacy because he has not admitted that he should have made better choices. If the people of the United States want the wars to end, then as president you need to listen to your citizens and find a way to make their wishes happen. We cannot know what our grandchildren will think of President George W. Bush, he will be in the history books that I am very sure of.

Don’t forget no child left behind, Katrina, the passing of the Patriot Act which took away many of our constitutional rights, his skill as an ‘oil man’ which led to the highest gas prices we’ve ever seen, changing the point of the Iraq war three different times, the Bush doctrine (which essentially is the bully doctrine), not working on driving down the cost of healthcare, the banning of perscription drugs from anywhere but in America….

I haven’t even hit them all… but the negatives outweigh the positives, big time, in my opinion.

Bush’s AIDS policies have been largely misrepresented. He is touted as having allocated the highest amount of money in history for combating the disease in Africa, but the amount that was approved is lower than the Clinton-era numbers. His policy of putting extraordinarily tight controls on “intellectual property” in the Southern Africa Free-Trade Agreement has made it nearly impossible for medication to become readily available to the people who need it most.

And don’t get me started on what he’s done to the environment in the last eight years.

The man is a travesty, and history will remember him as the worst President we ever had.
