Gay Marriage News

In California, people are trying to nullify eighteen thousand gay marriages. This is because proposition eight was passed in November which banned gay marriages in California. If you remember, months ago gay people including celebrity Ellen DeGeneres had started getting married in California.  The attorney general of California named Jerry Brown wants the ban on gay marriage overturned. The gay marriage debate divides the country. I do not understand how heterosexuals can fight to not allow gay people to be able to marry. I mean fifty percent of heterosexual couples get divorced. We do not even take marriages seriously, especially celebrities. I watched a program on television about the shortest Hollywood marriages this week. Our society does not really care about marriages. Do you remember the show about marrying a millionaire? This debate will continue but I think that gay people whoa re already married in California should not have their marriages overturned, that would be unfair.

Proposition 8: Now Gay Marriage is Illegal in California

Okay, I was watching the news and I saw that proposition eight which would ban gay marriage did in fact pass. My question is how could that  happen in California? I mean California is know for being a very liberal and gay friendly state. I mean gay people were already getting married. Ellen DeGeneres recently married her long time girlfriend Portia De Rossi does that now mean that their marriage is now invalid  in the state of California? I feel bad for gay people who just want to be allowed to get married in the state of California. I mean we are all excited that a man who is African American is now the president elect of the United States of America but, now gay people are struggling again with their civil rights. Many people blame the Mormons and the Church of Latter Day Saints in Utah for the ban on gay marriage in California. They contributed a lot of money to try and make sure that the ban did pass.  What do you think about proposition eight? Should it have passed? Yes or No, and why should it have passed or not passed?

CT Legalizes Same Sex Marriage

The Supreme in Connecticut ruled on Friday that same sex marriage is now legal. Three states have legalized same sex marriage: Connecticut, Massachusetts, and California. This is a huge win for homosexual couples in Connecticut. Whatever your stance is on gay marriage, you have to agree that you should be able to have the freedom to marry whomever you please. I mean you love who you love who you love, you can not help that fact.We say we are a tolerant country, but tolerating something isn’t the same thing as being for something. I tolerate my child’s tantrums, I wouldn’t like to have other people want their child to throw tantrums. Why can’t this country be more accepting of people’s different beliefs, religions, races, or sexual orientation?

At McCain/Palin rallies it reminds me of after 9/11 when racism and hatred was acceptable. It was okay to be racist towards Arabs, Muslims, and people of middle eastern descent even though those citizens in this country did nothing wrong. Then, Bush told everyone to hate the French, and dump their wines and called french fries freedom fries.

I personally think that every single person in this country should be allowed to get married if they should so choose. Marriage reduces promiscuity and thus would lower HIV, AIDS, STD’s and other diseases.  Everyone should be allowed to commit forever to the person they so choose. It is only fair. One comedian said gay people should be able to get married so they can be as miserable while married as straight people. In order to achieve peace in this country, we need to stop discrimination and hatred.
